How does the Veterans Preference Act apply?
Pursuant to the Veteran’s Preference Act, any applicant for the position of patrol officer who qualifies as a “Veteran” under this Act, who has served in active duty, and who provides a DD-214, shall receive an additional ten (10) points on top of their total score if that applicant had received passing scores in all parts of the examinations.

General Qualifications for the position of Patrol Officer:
- Be a citizen of the United States.
- Be at least 21 years old.
- Be physically, medically, and psychologically fit for the performance of the duties of a police officer.
- Have a valid Pennsylvania driver's license before appointment.
- Have a minimum of sixty (60) college credits or an Associate's or Bachelor's degree from a nationally accredited college or university.
- As an alternative to the sixty (60) college credits, an applicant may instead have:
- Three (3) years of experience as a duly certified municipal, federal or state police officer, OR
- At least three (3) years of active-duty service in any branch of the United States Armed Forces.
- As an alternative to the sixty (60) college credits, an applicant may instead have:
- Of good moral character.
