Board, Commission and Authority Positions

Volunteer residents are sought to serve on several boards, commissions and an authority. Appointments are made in June, December and January and as needed and on the schedule listed below:

  • Positions to be considered for appointment at the December 12, 2017 Stated meeting are: CSC, HC, PC, MA.
  • MA positions were filled in September 2016 with a start date of January 2017. The next appointment to that authority will be in December 2017 for a start date of January 2018.
  • Position to be considered for appointment in January 2018 is: VB.
Board/Commission # Term Meetings Description
Building Code Board of Appeals (BCBA) 7 5 yrs As requested Reviews appeals of the Uniform Construction Code of PA.
Civil Service Commission (CSC) 5 6 yrs As needed on call of chairman The Civil Service Commission enforces Rules and Regulations approved by the Board; conducts examinations and certifies qualified applicants for positions and promotions within the Police Department; and, conducts hearings for police officers who appeal a suspension, removal or reduction in rank in the Police Department, issue subpoenas for such hearings and render written decisions on such appeals.

Members and one attorney are appointed by the Board of Commissioners. Civil Service Commission members may not serve on other Township Boards or Commissions.

Environmental Protection Advisory Board (EPAB) 7 3 yrs 1st Tuesday of every month 7p EPAB advises the Board of Commissioners on issues related to protecting the quality of water, land and air resources.
Historical Commission (HC) 7 3 yrs 4th Monday of every month 7p HC seeks to foster awareness and appreciation of our community’s history, encourage preservation of local resources, and offer information to property owners.
Library Board (UDPLB) 7 3 yrs 3rd Wednesday of every other odd # month 6:30p UDPLB creates service standards and policy, and recommends funding for the Library.
Municipal Authority (MA) 5 5 yrs 1st Friday of every month 7:30a Residents, Township business owners and current Commissioners from the Board of Commissioners are eligible for appointment to this Authority.
Planning Commission (PC) 7 4 yrs 3rd Tuesday of every month 7p The PC reviews current planning issues and development applications. Assists with longer range planning necessary to retain and enhance the quality and character of Upper Dublin Township.
Shade Tree Commission (STC) 5 5 yrs 3rd Thursday of every month 3:30p STC was established by Ordinance #870, that vests the Commission with "exclusive custody and control" of all Shade Trees.
Vacancy Board (VB) 1 1 yr As needed Chairs Vacancy Board when required to ensure filling of unexpired term of vacated position on Board of Commissioners.
Zoning Hearing Board (ZHB) 6 3 yrs 4th Monday of every month 7:30p unless otherwise posted The Zoning Hearing Board, pursuant to State law, deals with interpretation of the Township’s zoning ordinances. The members and one attorney are appointed by the Board of Commissioners.
