Fort Washington Village District Planning
Upper Dublin Township has completed a community visioning planning process for the Fort Washington Village District Overlay area to promote a more vibrant and walkable village environment while protecting the character of the surrounding neighborhoods. The Township hired Town Planning Partnership, planners from Doylestown and Glackin Thomas Panzak, landscape architects and planners from Paoli to facilitate this three-month planning effort.
The Fort Washington Village District area is located exclusively on commercially zoned land in Upper Dublin Township and it currently has a number of underutilized and aging sites that are likely to be redeveloped in the coming years. During this visioning process the planning team will research case studies of similar village and train station area environments to identify mixed-use and single-use building types compatible with the existing Fort Washington Village District Overlay zoning district.
The plan was completed through a series of visual preference survey techniques and community engagement listening sessions that engaged small groups of business owners, property owners, community stakeholders and Township leaders to establish a series of planning goals, preferred community character images and explored a range of village building types, streetscape design alternatives and civic spaces for the Fort Washington Village District Overlay area. As a result of this planning process, a preliminary findings report presented on February 22, 2017 documents the preferred community character for Fort Washington's village area in Upper Dublin Township while promoting the design of high quality, village-scaled buildings and pedestrian-friendly places.
