SB Route 309
Current Information:
Butler Pike on-ramp to SR 309 Northbound is planned to be re-opened on Monday, June 29th.
Crews will be painting the black bolts used to replace the galvanized bolts on the Norfolk Southern Railroad bridge over SR 309 just south of the Fort Washington Interchange. Lane closures on Southbound SR 309 from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM just south of the Fort Washington Interchange. SR 2027 (Pennsylvania Avenue) will be reduced to one lane of traffic between 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM just north of Oreland.
Base Information: All traffic on Route 309 has been shifted to the east from Highland Avenue through the Norristown Road/Springhouse Interchange, allowing full-scale reconstruction to begin on the opposite side.
A short stretch of Route 309 north of Norristown Road/Springhouse remains under construction through the spring. Embankment excavation and shoulder construction in this area are expected to continue until late spring, when the new northbound lanes will be opened to traffic and southbound traffic shifted to the center.
With most of the southbound side of the expressway's northern section now vacated, crews will begin full-scale operations to widen and rebuild that side of the highway. The southbound side of six bridges within the new construction area also will be widened and redecked.
Construction also continues on the southbound bridge over Bethlehem Pike at the northern end of the expressway. Work also is now underway on the western abutment for the Cedar Hill Road Bridge, which remains closed through the end of the project in 2010.
Daytime restrictions may be in place for construction on surface roads at bridges carrying Route 309 over Loch Alsh Avenue, Susquehanna Road, Butler Pike and Norristown Road. The sidewalk at the north side of Loch Alsh Avenue overpass remains open for pedestrians.
Temporary traffic signals are in place to manage traffic flow at McKean Road and Tennis Avenue, where construction to widen the spans also is underway.
